Jay Lentzner Collection

In November of 2024 the archives received 26 Bankers Boxes of files from the estate of Jay Lentzner. Jay worked in the engineering depart of the Milwaukee Road starting in 1970 and was involved with the company shutdown operations west of Miles City, Montana. In 1988 he joined the newly created Montana Rail Link in the engineering department and remained there until his retirement. Jay passed away on January 1, 2024. The material that was donated to the archives is primarily from the Milwaukee Road and includes engineering files from the earliest days in Washington State. Some of the early files relate to the extensive barge operation operated on Puget Sound as well as material on the electrification. One of the more detailed files from the 1930’s is the transfer of operations between Monroe and Everett from Milwaukee tracks to those of the Great Northern. The remaining items in the donation are from the Montana Rail Link.
