In December of 2024 the archives received the donation of the Doug Cummings Collection. Doug was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1942 and from an early age was interested in everything that ran on rails. In his early adult years, he worked at a Vancouver Island logging operation and was involved with its rail operations. Later he earned a degree in transportation management and also worked as a pilot and as charter bus driver until his retirement in 2012. Doug was a prolific photographer and traveler and he went around the world in the search of trains, especially the remaining railroads operated by steam. In 1991 Doug became the editor and publisher of the locomotive magazine Extra 2200 South and would continue its publication until ending in 2008.
Within the donation is a substantial amount of material primarily focused on locomotives. As to images there is approximately 150,000 slides, about 25,000 medium format black & white negatives and about 5,000 prints. Also the collection has about 25 Bankers Boxes of locomotive and railroad research material that was collected by Doug as well as the files from Extra 2200 South.
